Star Wars Is Everywhere: Episode XXV

Posted By Mike on November 14, 2010

Star Wars is Everywhere...because "Star Wars Sure Seems To Be In A Lot Of Places" just didn't roll off the tongue as nicely.

Getting things started this week, we have a reader submission from Michael T.:

"A friend of mine, Jamie D., who lives out in Los Angeles sent me this picture of the menu at a sushi place she recently went to -- she says it's called Niko Niko, located on Vermont Blvd. in Los Feliz. Anyway, I think you may notice one of the items may sound particularly mouth-watering to those of us who have a Star Wars related palate."
(Thanks Michael!)

A couple Star Wars toys and references can be found in the new trailer for the upcoming retelling of Gulliver's Travels, starring Jack Black. The film lands in 2-D and 3-D theaters on December 22, 2010. Click here to check out the trailer.
(Thanks Dustin!)

In the wake of Currys PC World in the UK launching their new Star Wars-themed commercial, Movieline.com has compiled a list (with video) of 9 classic Star Wars commercials.
(Thanks Sam!)

SKY News HD reports that Ewan MacGregor was among hundreds who recently marched to save the RAF Lossiemouth base. Ewan's brother is an ex-RAF pilot so the issue hits close to home for him and his brother, who was also in attendance. Click here to learn more.

A youth project organized by the Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church in Louisville, Kentucky sent costumed children out and about collecting canned goods instead of treats in order to benefit the Eastern Area Community Ministries food pantry. Naturally a Star Wars costume or two was in the mix. Fear not for the do-gooding trick or treaters. This trick or treat drive was held early in the day so the kids still got to go out later trick or treating for candy. Read more about it at Courier-Journal.com.

Speaking of kids in Star Wars costumes for Halloween, did anyone else see a ton of them this year? I went to my four year old son's pre-school Halloween party and out of approximately 60 kids, I counted 9 Star Wars costumes. I thought that was a pretty nice percentage. While my son as Captain Rex was cute, I absolutely loved the little girl in his class who sported the same costume but with pig tails. Good times!

The Russian missle defense system DON-2N pyramid sure looks a lot like the base of the Jedi Temple. Coincidence? See for yourself at Gizmodo.

Were Luke Skywalker and Han Solo the heroes of the Battle of Yavin or was it a lone, un-named and inexperienced TIE fighter pilot? Cracked.com breaks it all down in an article that features a little adult language.
(Thanks Kyle!)

The creative work of French photographer/artist Cedric Delsaux is featuerd at TheAtlanticWire.com where you can view his pictures of iconic Star Wars images in Dubai.

Skyline actor Eric Balfour talks a bit about the improvisation between himself and co-star Donald Faison with MTV.com:

"We're not stick-by-the-script guys," Balfour said. "It's not easy for Donald to be serious. He's a funny dude. He'd vacillate between channeling Will Smith and ['Star Wars' badass] Lando Calrissian. At one point, he was doing Lando in a scene, but not very well, and I had to take him aside and do an impersonation of Lando for him. Mine was better."
