Star Wars Is Everywhere: Episode XXVIII

Posted By Mike on December 19, 2010

Take a break from all of the holiday shopping to enjoy examples of Star Wars here, there and everywhere...

Let's kick off this latest edition of Star Wars is Everywhere with a nice holiday Star Wars-themed story from our friend Mark:

"Thought I?d share an amazing story with you. A couple of weeks ago I sold one of my chrome based Boba Fett bobbleheads I got at CV on Ebay. As I was getting it ready to ship I noticed the name on the invoice was a Stephen Sansweet, so I emailed him asking if he was in fact THE Steve Sansweet and to my amazement he replied stating that he indeed was.

I was so excited to now that not only that he I sold my piece but I sold it to Steve to be placed into his immense collection. Well the story gets even better. When I packed up the bobblehead I included a letter, a couple of pictures of my 5 year old son dressed as Han Solo during CV (You can see the two of us on the Star Wars site. Our picture was taken during the children?s costume contest, he was Han and I was Chewie). I also included the cards that Official Pix were giving out of Steve and George Lucas and asked if he wouldn?t mind signing his and maybe even have George sign his too.

Well today I received an envelope in the mail, hand addressed to me. Upon opening it, I was like a kid in a candy store all over again. It was the Lucasfilms Christmas card personalize to me from Steve Sansweet and inside the Christmas card were the two Steve Sansweet cards that I sent but now autographed. Unfortunately he couldn?t get George to sign his but I didn?t care because Steve being the classy guy that he is gave my son and I a couple of early Christmas gifts that we both will treasure fir the rest of our lives.

Just wanted to share this story and wish everyone Season Greetings."

(Thanks Mark!)

Star Wars got a little love in the latest episode of the new ABC show, No Ordinary Family. At approximately the 10:20 mark, Katie Andrews (Autumn Reeser) is discussing relationships with her super-fast scientist boss Stephanie Powell (Julie Benz):

"I have not felt this way about a guy since Comic-Con '06 when I fell for the cutest metrosexual Wookiee."

You can catch the full episode over at HULU.com or at the show's official site.

A Star Wars reference found its way into the Late Show with David Letterman Weekly Top Ten Contest...

Continuing with reader submissions, Chris from the UK wrote in with the following...

'"Bleak Expectations" is a Charles Dickens parody broadcast on BBC Radio 4 UK. In the episode broadcast on 9th December 2010, the main characters were attacked by a horde of Frenchmen. They are rescued by a masked stranger who tells them:

"We must hurry. French people startle easily, but they will soon return, and in greater number."

The audience loved it. You can learn more about "Bleak Expectations" at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00cwgs6 "

Apparently, the Star Wars references didn't stop there as Chris quickly sent over a follow-up...

"The most recent episode contained the following SW reference. It's a bit involved, but here goes.

Our heroes are caught in 19th Century Russia when they get involved in the "Tsar Wars", (a conflict between those who use the spelling "Tsar" and those who use the spelling "Czar".) Apparently there six of these conflicts; the first three were great, but the recent ones were rubbish.

(The villain also claims to be the hero's father, but it's a bit obvious and "Toy Story 2" got there first.)"

(Thanks Chris!)

CollectorsWeekly.com guest blogger Steve Erenberg showcases a couple of masks/helmets dating between the mid 1800s and WWII that bear strong resemblances to Darth Vader and C-3PO.
(Thanks Lisa!)

From our buddy Justin L. in New York...

"Don't remember if I've ever sent this to you guys before, but you gotta check this out. There is a small company called Metal Park that is located in Bryant Park on 34th and 5th in NY City. They take old machine/engine/bicycle parts and use them to assemble unbelievable statues based on Star Wars, Terminator, Predator, Marvel, etc. The parts are welded together and then coated with layers of lacquer to make the statues completely smooth and glossy. They are simply stunning to see in person and have had their booth in Bryant Park for years now.

We have a medium-size Yoda and Jango Fett statue in our collection.

Here is the link to the Metal Park website: http://store.metalpark.org/index.html"

(Thanks Justin!)

Chenoa from Vancouver, BC created one heck of a nice Star Wars text crawl outfit!

Apparently, there are some folks who think that the redwood tree pictured above has the image of Darth Vader etched into it. While I'm not sure I see it, I certainly applaud the Star Wars is Everywhere effort on the part of those who do. Read about it at AolNews.com.
