Dave Filoni Isn't Hands On With Star Wars Resistance
In a recent interview with IGN, Dave Filoni admitted he isn't as "hands-on" with Star Wars Resistance as he was on past shows like Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars. With the huge announcement at this year's San Diego Comic-Con that The Clone Wars was returning for a seventh season, it seems that has become his main focus although he admits to having one eye firmly on Resistance...
"So right now, Resistance is a bit different, in that I'm not on that day-to-day. I created and set it in motion, but I've given that to other people to raise up, people that I've worked with a long time, who I think deserve the opportunity to tell stories and I think it's exciting, and I give them my thoughts and notes – I was just doing that this morning, like George would give me. So that's fun.
And then obviously with Clone Wars I'm very in the weeds on that and will have to be, because I myself have had to go back and watch a whole bunch of stuff that I had done, and I went back and watched Revenge of the Sith and Attack of the Clones in depth again."
This is certainly a different approach for Filoni as he's historically been able to put all of his attention into one project at a time. But with The Clone Wars clearly being very important to him and the other staff at Lucasfilm, it's taken a bit of a higher priority for Filoni than Resistance has. Star Wars Resistance was his idea and some fans have been concerned with the lack of promotional material heading into the shows fall release. Here's what Filoni said about the show when the announcement was made...
“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots” said Filoni. “My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”
So, what does everybody think about his development? Is Filoni being spread too thin or do you like the idea of new and fresh faces being given opportunities to step up to the limelight? Personally, I love the idea of Dave taking on a George Lucas mentor type role, something he himself has stated many times was very important to him early on in his creative development.
Star Wars Resistance will premiere this October on Disney XD and Star Wars: The Clone Wars will resume late next year with the premiere of the Disney streaming service.
