Star Wars Is Everywhere: Episode LVI

Posted By Mike on October 11, 2011

Today we have Billy Dee Williams on Man Up, Dancing with the Stars, a couple Star Wars mods, Star Wars library event coverage & more!

EW.com reports that the one and only Billy Dee Williams is set appear on the new ABC sitcom Man Up. He'll be playing himself as a hero to show star, and Fanboys alumn, Dan Fogler. The episode will air later this fall.

Our friend Thiago sent the following SWIE news from Brazil...

"Yesterday, during the final presentations of Rock In Rio, Rio de Janeiro / Brazil, Serj Tankian (System of a Down) said ?This is your father Luke? at the end of a song in the middle of some guttural sounds.

Later on, during the Guns and Roses concert Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (guitar) played ?Welcome to the Jungle? wearing a StormTrooper Helmet (that gave him some problems, making it difficult to see)"

(Thanks Thiago!)

It seems like we've had a lot of Star Wars and sports additions to Star Wars is Everywhere lately and this article comparing characters to college football ranked teams at SportsIllustrated.com is certainly no exception.
(Thanks Big Chris!)

Per our friend Maureen's blog, it appears that Yoda is injecting himself into Manitoba polititcs.
(Thanks Maureen!)

It looks like Star Wars made its return to Dancing with the Stars according to LATimes.com:

"But first, since there weren?t enough dances to fill the two-hour show, the ?DWTS? troupe and pros Val Chmerkovskiy, Louis Van Amstel and Peta Murgatroyd showed off their dancing chops to Sergio Leone?s spaghetti westerns and ?The Great Escape,? and brought out the light sabers for a routine to John Williams? ?Star Wars? theme that would no doubt have done well in ballrooms long ago in a galaxy far far away. As Tom said, ?You can never go wrong with light sabers and spray tanning.?'

Visit HULU.com or ABC.com to watch the episode.

Jedi Force powers are making their way into the real world according to BBC News:

"The inner workings of the brain can now be read using low cost hardware

You don't have to be a Jedi to make things move with your mind.

Granted, we may not be able to lift a spaceship out of a swamp like Yoda does in The Empire Strikes Back, but it is possible to steer a model car, drive a wheelchair and control a robotic exoskeleton with just your thoughts.

"The first thing is to clear your mind?to think of nothing," says Ed Jellard; a young man with the quirky title of senior inventor."
