Star Wars Is Everywhere: Episode LII

Posted By Mike on September 14, 2011

New Star Wars Moleskin notebooks present an origami space battle video. Plus, Blu-ray-related links, random event coverage, reader submissions and more!

Let's kick things off with a reader submission from Rebecca:

"My name is Rebecca. I am a creative and a star wars geek traveling the globe with my boyfriend right now. We've been in Indonesia, australia, new zealand, fiji and california and right now in South America.

To document our journey we created the "Surfing Trooper" - a Stormtrooper who is enjoying his trip around the globe away from the empire armed with a surfboard."

(Thanks Rebecca!)

UltimateCoupons.com has created an infographic that examines what Star Wars characters would be like living in the real world.
(Thanks Camille!)

Dick Cheney still seems to dig the fact that he was referred to as Darth Vader during his time as Vice President. Read about it at MinotDailyNews.com.

Naturally, Star Wars characters were present for last week's Librari-Con at the Headquarters Library in Fayetteville, North Carolina. You can read all about it at Fayobserver.com.

Cnet.com reports on some Star Wars references that have emerged following HP's announcement of their discontinuing the TouchPad.
(Thanks Som!)

The interweb has been aflutter with venom towards George Lucas since the public learned of the new tweaks to be included in the Blu-ray release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga. You might wonder why we haven't posted links to those negative articles. Well, quite frankly we love Star Wars and have no interest in promoting those who want to tear it, or George Lucas, down. On the other hand, our friend Jordan at TheMoviePool.com has posted a nice article discussing the various changes to the saga over the years and why he's cool with them. Click here to check it out.

Sticking with the Blu-rays, Blu-ray.com gives us a comprehensive review of Star Wars: The Complete Saga. Excerpt below:

"But, if you're like me, you're probably more interested in how faithfully the original trilogy has been ported to Blu-ray. We've already covered content, of course, so I'm talking cosmetically. Unlike the prequels, which look quite different from one to the next?especially in the jump from the second to the third?the 1080p/AVC-encoded transfers of the three "classic" Star Wars films are fairly consistent with one another and, in a word, amazing. If you need a number, I'm comfortable giving 4.5's across the board for the integrity and simple gorgeousness of these three transfers. If you grew up watching these films on VHS you're going to be blown away. I don't say that lightly. When I popped in A New Hope and saw that first great close-up of R2 in all his worn-in glory?the scuff marks finely resolved in high definition?I knew I was in good hands. And I kept having moments like this. Seeing the weft of the fabric of Obi-Wan's cloak as he tells the stormtroopers "these are not the droids you're looking for." The level of detail inside the Millennium Falcon. The mottled facial texture of the Yoda puppet in Empire. The almost palpable ripples of Jabba's skin in Jedi. You'll notice background details you've never noticed before. Imperfections in the model work. Aspects of the costumes that previously escaped your attention."
(Thanks Justin!)

Star Wars: The Complete Saga promotions are popping up everywhere as is evident by an article from MotorsTV.com:

"V8 Supercar racer Jonathon Webb will run a one-off Star Wars-inspired livery at this weekend?s L&H 500 at Phillip Island.

The Tenko Autosports driver will compete with Darth Vader on the bonnet and Yoda on the roof of his Ford Falcon to promote the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu Ray. The #19 also features a number of Star Wars phrases, including ?the force is strong with this one? on front grill and ?my other car is a death star? on the rear bumper."

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs rugby team are auctioning off some signed Star Wars jerseys in order to raise funds for Camp Quality.
(Thanks Jeff!)

The New York Daily News reports that the New York Mets, while hosting their Star Wars Night, lost to the Washington Nationals by a score of 3-2.
