Wan-shen
this polearm was the traditional weapon of the Matukai adepts. A single blade was attached to one end, and the wan-shen could be wielded like a quarterstaff. The blade was forged with the assistance of the Force, making it incredibly strong and sharp. Each wan-shen was unique to its owner, being hand-crafted in much the same way that a Jedi Knight built their lightsaber. A wan-shen was often built to collapse into smaller sections for easy transport. In keeping with the Matukai tradition, the wan-shen was essentially an extension of one's body, to be used to help center an individual and assist them focusing their bodies on tapping into the energy of the Force. War Behemoth
originally a peaceful herd animal native to the icy plains of Khar Delba, the behemoth was a huge, four-legged beast distinguished by its long tusks which it used to protect itself from predators. The ancient Sith Lords discovered that the behemoth was quite hardy, and transported several specimens off the planet for genetic and magical manipulation. Over the period of several centuries, the herbivorous creatures were altered to become gargantuan, omnivorous killing machines which could also serve as transports. Standing more than twelve meters in height and weighing more than 10,000 kilograms, the Sith war behemoth could taken into battle with a variety of missions. Some were used to carry Sith magicians into battle, while others served as battering rams. Larger specimens were even equipped with armor plating and gun mounts, serving as immense weapons platforms. In battle, war behemoths could trample enemies or swallow them whole, and were bred to be easily handled by their masters. (WOTC)

War Council Advisory Panel
this advisory panel was formed by Chancellor Palpatine to provide advice and direction during the height of the Clone Wars. It operated under the control of the Homeworld Security Command, and was responsible for the operational planning and deployment of clone trooper specialists. This went counter to the original chain of command established at the Battle of Geonosis, when the Jedi were placed in command of all clone units. Thus, the Jedi Order was not enthusiastic about the actions of the Panel, especially after it began deploying clone troopers to planetary defense forces. (VD3)

War Day
an annual holiday celebrated by the Old Republic, it was given new meaning and was reused by the New Republic, following the Battle of Endor. (TSW, TT)

War Droid
an ancient mechanical robot equipped with weapons and sent into battle in place of living warriors, war droids were used with the most effectiveness by Xim the Despot. Largely unstoppable at their creation, war droids were three meters tall and roughly humanoid in shape. They were armed with a pair of pulse cannons,and were protected by heavy armor plating coated with a kiirium sheen. During the time of the New Republic, the Scavs have salvaged a number of them and use them as protection devices. (DE1, EGD)

War Droid
this was the name given to the thin, humanoid automatons used by the Krath to striek back at the Jedi Knights and the Old Republic, some 4,000 years before the Battle of Yavin. These skeletal droids were menacing in their appearance, and were armed with pulse-wave induction spines as well as hand-mounted pulse rifles. In addition to this weaponry, the Krath installed a retractable sword into each arm, to be used for melee combat. (EGD, TSW)

located in Imperial City on Coruscant, this edifice was used by the New Republic's leaders to review battle data received from the blockade of the Koornacht Cluster during the Yevethan Purge. (SOL)

this Wookiee ran a small operation in the tunnels of Tol Ado, under the nose of Imperial Governor Sebastian Parnell. Parnell later discovered Warburton's location from his spy, Santo. this was a ceremonial cloak, edged with the red fur from a native predator, worn by the female humans of the Calain Confederacy, on the planet Shiva IV. It was meant to be worn in battle, to show an individual's fighting skills and position of command. (MC54)

Warden 10-24
this was Ulban Arms' most notorious model gladiator droid. These hulking, humanoid constructs were extremely well-armed, with six blasters hidden in each of its ten fingers and a pair of double laser cannons placed in its chest. The Warden 10-24 was heavily-armored, and moved about on two stout legs. They were given only enough programming to attack their targets, but had to receive new or further orders from a command center in orderto continue fighting once a target was dispatched. (EGD)

one of General Salm's Y-Wing bomber squadrons serving the New Republic. Warden Squadron was a part of Defender Wing. (XWN)

Warden-class Light Cruiser
this 42-meter-long starship was designed by Sienar Fleet Systems as a multi-purpose security vessel, during the height of the New Order. Based on the original design of the Guardian-class light cruiser, the Warden-class cruiser was given stronger engines for more maneuverability, and its sensor and scanner systems were also upgraded. Itrequired a crew of sixteen officers and a single gunner, and could carry up to fourteen troopers and 100 metric tons of cargo. It was armed with a pair of turret-mounted laser cannons. (SWJ4)

this New Republic medical frigate was assigned to Han Solo and the Mon Remonda during the hunt for Warlord Zsinj. (SOC)

Wardex
this was a term used on prison worlds to describe an individual who served as the warden, but also held a position as an executive in the corporation that managed the planet. (GCG)

Wardle, Chozz
this man served as the Royal Physician to the King Lorac and Queen Denira of the planet Velmor, during the early years of the New Order. After the deaths of Lorac and Denira, Wardle remained part of the royal household, serving Regent Zelor and Prince Anod. When Luke Skywalker arrived on Velmor with a man he claimed was the rightful heir to the throne, Prince Denid, it was Wardle who performed the examination to verify the claim. His tests clearly showed that Denid was, in fact, the legitimate heir to the throne. Zelor, however, had become enamored of rulership, and had Wardle and his entire staff executed shortly after the report was submitted, in an effort to cover up any possible proof of Denid's claim. Wa'renfu Modeling
this was a method of measuring the probablity of an event occurring, based on several forms of input and utilizing specialized algorithms to compute a percentage of probablity. (ROF)

this modified VGK-3 Shooting Star was owned by Bryce Agoris and Myrgaanti Shi-iki. It was the first working prototype of the VGK-3, stolen by the mercenaries after they defected from the Alliance. Wari, Aris-Del
this was the name given to Ludi Billane by the Jedi Knights, shortly after her rescue from the ruined city of Domitree, on her homeworld of Ord Thoden. The infant was rescued some eight months prior to the Clone Wars by the Jedi Knights were on Ord Thoden to assist with rescue efforts. They brought Ludi back to Coruscant for training, unaware that her mother, Jonava Billane, had survived the earthquakes. (HNN4)

Warkeeper
this Yuuzhan Vong creature was bio-engineered to act as a protector and defender of a thrall herder. Resembling a slug and measuring about twenty-two meters in length, the warkeeper was covered with an armored shell that was studded with heavy spikes. These spikes were specially-created plasma emitters, capable of spraying globs of plasma fire at anything with two kilometers of its position. In order to protect the warkeeper, the Yuuzhan Vong also inplanted a dovin basal into the creature's body, allowing it to absorb enemy attacks while it kept the thrall herder free to control its captives. The Yuuzhan Vong warrior commanding the warkeeper had to be constantly vigilant, for this dovin basal could also suck in unsuspecting thralls. (NJOSB)

Warlord
this was the only name given to the former leader of the tribes of Kariek, although many of the planet's natives referred to him as the Glorious Majesty. No Lakra or Eickarie had ever seen what the Warlord looked like, as he was always dressed in ornate armor. The Warlord took control of the planet about four years after the Battle of Naboo, establishing his seat of power in the fortress of the ancient Cro-sal-trei tribe. He ruled Kariek through wanton violence, which led many to believe that the Warlord was a member of the Lakra race. However, he maintained a small contingent of support among the Eickarie, despite his aggression toward their race as a whole. When the United Tribes of Kariek was formed many years after the Battle of Endor, the Warlord retreated to his fortress and made every effort to disrupt the efforts of the UTK to bring lasting peace of Kariek. The UTK requested the assistance of the Empire of the Hand in eliminating the Warlord, twenty-two years after the Battle of Endor. Although the stormtroopers of the Imperial 501st Legion had no problem bringing the Warlord down, they were hesitant to eliminate any of the Eickarie he held prisoner. Aurek Company decided to join forces with Su-mil and his Eickarie soldiers, striking a deal to help free a group of Eickarie prisoners in exchange for gaining access to the Warlord's fortress and capturing him alive. Both sides honored their agreement, and they found the Warlord holed up in a chamber deep inside the fortress. Su-mil and his Eickaries raced ahead, swiftly eliminating the Warlord's bodyguards and capturing the Warlord. Su-mil then turned the dictator over to Twister and his stormtroopers. It was later learned that the Warlord was neither an Eickarie nor a Lakra, but his true race was unknown to either the New Republic or the Imperial Remnant. (FB)

Warlord
this Victory-class Star Destroyer was the heart of the Lianna defense fleet during the Galactic Civil War. It was under the command of Rodin Verpalion, and was seventeen years old when Verpalion was assigned to Lianna, shortly after the Battle of Yavin. Its crew consisted of 6,100 crewers and 1,550 troops, and was armed with 20 turbolaser batteries, 20 double turbolaser cannons, 10 ion cannons, and 10 tractor beam projectors. (ML)

Warlord Dropship
manufactured by Telgorn, the 110-meter Warlord was a larger dropship than the Sonda Armament's AIC-4. This ship was capable of transporting up to 360 troops and up to 180 metric tons of cargo, or a platoon of 4 AT-ATs. Crewed by a complement of 200, the Warlord was armed with 6 double turbolaser cannons. It was the largest dropship in the Imperial fleet. (SWJ2)

Warmaster
this was the title given to the highest-rank Yuuzhan Vong commander of an invasion or fighting force. The Warmaster was the commander and the mastermind behind their invasion of the known galaxy. From a remote location, the Warmaster controlled all the plans for the invasion. (DTR)

Warmoon
this was one of three natural satellites orbiting Fyodos. Its original name was lost in the Great Cleansing. Fyodoi lore said that the cycle of the Warmoon was the best time for a battle. (PG2)

Warning and Detection Device
called a WADD for short, this was a device built by R2-D2 to help secure Cloud City from food pirates following the Battle of Endor. (LCJ)

Waroen
this Imperial Navy Lieutenant served as Joak Drysso's chief sensor officer aboard the Lusankya. During the Battle of Thyferra, when Drysso threatened to ram the ship into the planet Thyferra, Waroen took matters into his own hands and shot Drysso. He then took command of the Lusankya, and surrendered it and her crew to the New Republic. (BW)

an older Ewok, and the father of Teebo and Paploo, Warok led a group of Ewoks sent to rescue their children from Vulgarr and the Duloks. (ECAR, AT, CCG10)

Warok
this was a common name for Ewok males. Like other Ewok names, it referred to a spirit or character in the Ewoks' mythology. (GCG)

according to Ewok legend, this water spirit tormented prideful individuals by sneaking into their huts and throwing water on them during rainstorms. (GCG)

Waroo
this Wookiee word means "son of courage." Lumpawarump took this as the familiar part of this name after rescuing Han Solo from the Pride of Yevetha. Chewbacca agreed that the young Wookiee had passed his Test of Ascension during the rescue, taking Shoran's place and sustaining an injury while rescuing Solo. (TT)

Warren, Tole
this man served the Alliance as a communications officer at the Suolriep Sector headquarters, shortly before the Battle of Hoth. Previously, Lieutenant Warren was one of the few survivors of the safeworld Stronghold, which was nearly destroyed by the Charon. Tole was one of three sons of Barosa Warren who served the Alliance. this was the term used to describe the primary social structure of the Sullustan race. Each warren-clan was made up of several families who lived and worked together. (DN2)

Warrens Assault Squad
this band of warriors was locked in a form of civil war with the Force Assassins throughout the era of the New Order. Neither side of the war could remember the exact nature of their dispute, nor why they continued to fight. The fighting was confined to the area of the Dantooine System known as the Ebon Essentia, and the Empire strangely turned a blind eye to the conflcit. (SWGAL)

this was one of the six major districts of the city of Efavan, on the planet Vorzyd 5. (GORW)

this surname was one of the few used by the Ewok race, and indicated the greatest warrior of a given tribe. (GCG)

Warrior
an Imperial-I class Star Destroyer. It was charged with capturing Mon Calamari slaves when Halley Kadorto single-handedly destroyed its complement of TIE fighters and rescued the Mon Cals. (XW)

Warrior
a New Republic gunship which was assigned to the Intrepid's fleet during the Black Fleet Crisis. It was the Warrior which intercepted Luke Skywalker, Akanah, and the Mud Sloth when they arrived with Wailu and the Fallanassi to create the illusion of other Republic warships. (TT)

Warrior of the Infinite
this was the highest honor, bestowed by the Rajah of the Virjuansi, that a warrior could earn in battle. In the 6,000 years of the Palace of the Splendid Harmony, only 29 individuals were ever elevated to this rank. One of them was Anakin Skywalker, who earned the title during the three years of fighting in the Clone Wars. (SWI72, LEV)

Warrior-class Gunship
this was one of the new class of starships designed for use by the New Republic Navy. It measured 190 meters in length, and was a stronger ship than the Corellian Gunship. Like many of the new classes, the Warrior-class was based a earlier, proven design, the Agave-class picket ship. Their primary mission profile was to be small, fast destroyers, capable of taking out a Star Destroyer and living to tell about it. They were armed with 10 turbolaser cannons, 8 laser cannons, and 4 concussion missile launchers, and enhanced shields. (BTS, CTD)

Warriors
this Yuuzhan Vong social caste was made up of those individuals who fought the wars and planned the conquest of other species. Much of the work done by the Warrior caste is supported by the Priests. There were four distinct subdivisions of the Warrior caste: Warmaster, Caommander, Subaltern, and Warrior. The Warrior caste pledged their allegiance to the god Yun-Yammka. (NJOSB, UFCD)

Warriors of the Shadow
this was another name applied to the ancient Taungs of the planet Coruscant. (CCW)

Warris
this Corellian served as a New Republic recruiter. He held the rank of Navy Lieutenant, and initially turned down Plat Mallar's application for training during the Yevethan Purge. He cited the fact that Polneye was still listed in the New Republic's databases as a planet which supported the Empire. (SOL)

Warrl Surprise
this alcoholic drink was believed to give the drinker added agility. (SWGAL)

War-robot
these distinctive military automatons were built for Xim the Despot, and used by him to wage war on his enemies during the years before the formation of the Old Republic. They were superbly constructed, with reinforced stress points, heavy-gauge armor, and assorted chemical and energy weapons built into their bodies. Each war-robot stood well over two meters in height. The chest-plate of each war-robot was emblazoned with the insignia of Xim, a death's-head skull with sunbursts in the eye sockets. Over a thousand of them were assigned to the Queen of Ranroon alone, to guard Xim's treasure during its transport to Dellalt. Given the rumors of the loss of the Queen of Ranroon and Xim's defeat in the Third Battle of Vontor, all of Xim's war robots were thought to have been destroyed well before the Old Republic was chartered. When Lanni Troujow discovered the log-recorder from the Queen of Ranroon, a renewed search for the ship began on Dellalt. Hasti Troujow, Alexsandr Badure, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Skynx set out to locate the ship, and it was Skynx who discovered the remains of a war-robot and showed them to Han Solo. The group later discovered the thousand war-robots guarding the Queen of Ranroon, when they infiltrated the Survivors and entered the ship's remains. The war-robots were eventually destroyed when Blue Max and Bollux trapped them on a bridge and collapsed the bridge. (HSL)

Warsheld, Weston
this ancient man was the leader of House Calipsa during the height of the New Order. At the age of 108, he was confined to a repulsorchair and had to govern his province with the help of a great number of advisors and representatives. He was known for his shrewd sense of business, and his dealings with other Houses helped Calipsa survive the politcal and economic upheavals during the end of the Old Republic and the Galactic Civil War. Warspite
an Imperial Frigate assigned to Operation Strike Fear. (XW)

Wart
this man was one of the many pirates who operated beneath the notice of Governor Parnell in the Sil'Lume Asteroid Belt, shortly after the Battle of Yavin. (JH)

Wartaki Islands
this archipelago was located on the planet Kashyyyk. Clay from the land of these islands was used by Wookiees to create pipes and bowls. (RD, AIR)

Warthan's Wizards
this secretive group of starship designers and engineers dreamed up some of the Empire's most confidential starship designs, including several with active cloaking technology. They were first used by the Emperor during the Clone Wars, when he contracted them to upgrade a Theta-class T-2c personnel transport to serve as his personal shuttle. (JE, X3, SWDB)
