The First Open-World Star Wars Game Confirmed
A brand new open-world Star Wars game is being developed by Massive Entertainment via Ubisoft which will mark the first of its kind for the franchise. In an exclusive interview with StarWars.com, Douglas Reilly, the Vice President of Lucasfilm Games, shares all kinds of awesome news.
Specific details about this new story-driven game have not been revealed yet, but with the announcement from earlier this week, it seems Disney & Lucasfilm Ltd. are not messing around when it comes to catering to gamers and Star Wars fans. They've got big plans for the future and right out of the gate, we've now gotten some pretty massive news. With an open-world game, it will give players the ability to move as they wish, interact with other characters, use skills or items to advance the story and more. This could very well be the most expansive Star Wars game to date. The possibilities for gameplay are literally endless with what we might see.
Reilly also confirmed that the door is now open for other top-tier companies to come play in the Star Wars sandbox and make games that everyone wants to play. Lucasfilm's near decade old relationship with EA, the developer that brought us the more recent Star Wars: Battlefront, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and of course, the latest offering, Star Wars: Squadrons, is still very much intact and they still plan to work with them on Star Wars games going forward. We’re thrilled to announce we are working with @Ubisoft and @UbiMassive to develop a brand-new, story-driven, open-world Star Wars adventure!
