STAR WARS

Star Wars News This Week

Posted by Steve on August 20, 2018 at 12:27 PM CST

It's been another busy week for Star Wars news. With Star Wars - Episode IX underway and Star Wars Resistance giving us a first look, here's a few of the other stories that hit the web the past few days...

Episode IX First Day of Shooting

Episode IX will finish principal photography by February…

It appears the end is upon as. With production on J.J. Abrams Star Wars – Episode IX just beginning to shoot the beginning of this month, it seems we already have an end date for principal photography.

An article over at GWW is stating that Omega Underground has learned shooting for this final film in the trilogy will end sometime in February. At six months that’s longer than your typical Hollywood film production but not unusual for Star Wars. Abrams other entry The Force Awakens filmed for about six months and Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi shot for roughly five so the shoot for Episode IX while long, is standard protocol for Star Wars.

Of course, that’s just photography as these films are laden with visual and digital effects so post production will last an additional three or four months while they add the finishing touches. Ending in February of course gives them plenty of time for reshoots and editing to have the film ready for its planned December 20th release date.

We next to nothing at this point as details are scarce but we do have a cast list thanks to an announcement made by Abrams on StarWars.com. One of the big tidbits in that press release was of course that they will be using unused footage from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi to bring Carrie Fisher to life, completing the journey of General Organa.

Hopefully we’ll get some form of a trailer sooner than later.

Star Wars Resistance has a timeline…

For the longest time fans were wondering when we would get any information on Dave Filoni’s new animated series Star Wars Resistance. With a rumored Fall start date time was beginning to get short from a marketing standpoint, but that all changed this week. Within the frame of one day we got not only a premiere date and time, we also got our first look at the show thanks to a one-minute trailer released online.

Still, while we know the series takes place before the events in The Force Awakens, we never knew how close to that timeline the show would touch on. However, an eagle-eyed fan spotted something interesting on StarWars.com while looking up information for the show.

If you don't feel like following the link, here's what it says...

“Set about six months before The Force Awakens, Star Wars Resistance tells the story of Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.”

As soon as word got out, that little detail was removed from the site. But was it removed because it was incorrect or because they wanted to keep that detail under wraps? I'm going with the latter, but we'll find out October 7th when the show premiere's at 10pm on the Disney Channel.

The General has a voice...

A surprise that accompanied the trailer release for Star Wars Resistance was the fact that General Leia Organa would be appearing on the show, something that was kept under wraps well as only a select few knew about this important fact. Of course, it’s not surprising news to anyone as the show focuses on members of the Resistance operating roughly six-months prior to the events in The Force Awakens. Organa as we know started the Resistance herself and has been its leader ever since, so to have a show focused on that group and not include its leader would have been remiss.

And voicing the leader of the Resistance will be comedian and long-time voice actress Rachel Butera. She made the announcement official on her Twitter account...

This isn’t the first time we’ll have seen an animated Leia Organa as she’s appeared on Star Wars Rebels, Forces of Destiny and non-canon shows such as Droid Tales and The Freemaker Adventures. This is the first time however that Butera will voice the iconic Rebel leader as previously the character has been voiced by great talents such as Julie Dolan, Heather Doerksen and Shelby Young.

So that's it for this week!

Till next time...MTFBWY.
