Simon Kinberg: Rebels May Go "To Some Dark Places"

In a new interview with Empire magazine, Star Wars Rebels executive producer Simon Kinberg stressed that the Rebels crew was "not afraid" to explore the darkness of the inter-trilogy period in the course of the Disney XD animated series.

"We are not afraid to take those characters to some dark places," he said. "In the first season, there are some backstories that get revealed for main characters that are a lot darker and more dramatic than anything I've ever seen in animated TV, and which have the same depth and childhood trauma that the characters in the movies had."

Kinberg, who serves as a consultant on Episode VII, also suggested that Rebels might include some "Easter eggs that will pay off in VII, VIII, IX."
