Harrison Ford Injured On Set Of Episode VII

Posted by Eric on June 12, 2014 at 02:25 PM CST

Harrison Ford injured his ankle while filming Star Wars Episode VII, Disney announced today. The statement, via The Hollywood Reporter, reads, "Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates."

THR is reporting that the injury occurred on the set of the Millennium Falcon. The London-based Daily Mirror (grain of salt) is claiming that the accident occurred when a hydraulic door fell and hit Ford, who is 71, during the beginning of his work on the film.

"Ford was taken by air ambulance to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford with a suspected fracture in his ankle," according to the Mirror, which has a photo of the helicopter that airlifted Ford away from Pinewood Studios. "It is understood he has no major chest injuries but is awaiting results of further tests."

The Mirror also claims that the Pinewood set "will also be re-checked for safety," and that the UK's Health and Safety Executive is investigating the accident.

UPDATE: Access Hollywood has more information on Ford's condition from his son Ben (via MakingStarWars):

Access spoke to Harrison’s son, Ben Ford, who said that his dad will possibly need a plate and screws put into his ankle.

The actor’s son also speculated that filming of the J.J. Abrams movie could be altered slightly, with the crew needing to shoot the actor from the waist up for a short time until he recovers.
