Filoni Discusses TCW's Climactic Yoda Arc With Official SW Blog

Posted by Eric on March 12, 2014 at 04:39 PM CST

StarWars.com's Dan Brooks has posted new material from his previous interview with The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni that was too spoilerific for him to include with the rest of the interview. Why? Because it deals directly and extensively with the Yoda arc of The Clone Wars bonus content that was released last Friday on Netflix.

As usual, Filoni's mastery of the Star Wars mythos is clearly visible in his thoughtful explanation of the story arc's significance (and trust me, this is a very significant arc). Here's a paragraph from the new portion of the interview that you can read even if you haven't seen the episodes yet.

What you get out of this story arc is that you understand, finally, that Yoda in the Clone Wars period is not at all the same person that he is in The Empire Strikes Back. People, I think, have always wondered, “Why [in The Clone Wars] isn’t he like he was in Empire? He’s not as odd, and he’s not as quizzical. Why is he so much more serious in the Clone War and where’s the fun little Yoda who was wise?” Well, he’s not there yet, you see. The story that we tell goes a very long way toward explaining who Yoda is prior to the Clone War and who he becomes after the Clone War.
