Star Wars Is Everywhere: Episode XIV

Posted By Mike on July 27, 2010

This edition of Star Wars is Everywhere is one of our biggest and is truly all over the place...

Let's start out on the heart-warming side of things as KVAL.com reports on Make-A-Wish, Darth Vader and Disney helping to make a dream come true for 8 year old Candon Biggs.

While we had previously reported on the traveling Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination landing in Huntsville, Alabama, AL.com let's us know that Star Wars fans have made the current exibition stop more than a little successful...

"During the last month, crowds have come out in force to see The Force.

Today marks the one-month anniversary of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center?s new exhibit, ?Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination,? and officials couldn?t be happier. The traveling exhibit from the Boston Museum of Science, based on the George Lucas film series, has drawn more than 29,000 people since opening June 25 and broke even financially within the first 10 days of the exhibit, according to Space Center CEO Larry Capps.

The exhibit, which features costumes, props, models and hands-on exhibits, remains here through Sept. 6."

The Fink Exhibit Gallery at the Great Overland Station in Topeka, Kansas is displaying a Star Wars exhibit through October 10, 2010. Members of the 501st Legion were on hand this past Sunday to help launch the exhibition which displays all sorts of Star Wars memorabilia. (toys, posters, costumes...) The Topeka Capital-Journal provides a nice article about the event and you can click here for more details if you live in the area and plan on attending at some point.

The News-Herald reports on a Star Wars library event held last Saturday in northern Ohio...

"More than 30 years after the first of the Star Wars movies debuted, it's easy to see that The Force remains strong among generations of fans.

The Mentor Public Library hosted a Star Wars-themed party Saturday afternoon at the library's main branch on Mentor Avenue.

There were folks dressed as Jedi Knights, Princess Leah, Han Solo and other characters from the movie.

Many of the 300 people who attended the event were dressed in costumes or just playing around with movie-inspired toys to enjoy some good, clean fun."

The Official Starwars.com Blog brings our attention to a video featuring Apple founder Steve Jobs in a lightsaber battle with Microsoft?s Bill Gates.

ForceCast listeners may remember from an episode a couple weeks back that Billy Dee Williams provided a guest voice in a recent episode of The Boondocks. The episode was titled "The Story of Lando Freeman" and also included a vocal appearance by Samuel L. Jackson. As it turns out, the creators of The Boondocks seem to be working their way through the Star Wars cast as Mark Hamill provided the voice of Grant on the 7-18-10 episode titled, "Mr. Medicinal" Interestingly, Mark played the part of Grant who is a very un-Luke-like marijuana dealer with lines such as: "Hey there's Big Bobby. I got something special for you today. They call it Skywalker!"

Remember the petition for changing the University of Mississippi mascott to Admiral Ackbar? Well, so do the folks over at ESPN as is reported by NEMS360.com:

"Crews working for the cable sports networks of ESPN are in Oxford this week filming an ESPN promotion that recreates a student-generated spoof of the University of Mississippi's mascot controversies.

The film will be aired as a 30-second spot on ESPN networks and possibly in a longer format for web play in a campaign called "It's Not Crazy - It's Sports!"

"It's highlighting true things that demonstrate sports' ability to always surprise, inspire, dramatize and make life a lot less mundane," ESPN Brand Manager Kevin Kirksey said.

The spot at Ole Miss uses students to recreate a bit of last spring's tongue-in-cheek campaign to make Admiral Ackbar, a fish-like commander from George Lucas' "Star Wars" movies, the successor to Colonel Reb.

"We're shooting with a number of people around campus to show that at the heart of all that was a passionate group of students who wanted to find a new mascot to lead their team on-field," Kirksey said."
