Admiral Ackbar Goes To College

TMZ is reporting that Admiral Ackbar is close to becoming the official mascot of Mississippi University.

"Tuesday, the students voted in favor of crowning a new mascot to represent Rebel Nation ... and the favorite so far is none other than the most famous Mon Calamari in the entire universe. Several pro-Ackbar websites have recently emerged -- making the Admiral the heavy favorite. The University tells us the decision on the mascot is entirely in the hands of the student mascot committee."

Might we suggest the Rebel Cheerleaders for your next sporting event?

UPDATE: The New York Times has posted the following response from Lucasfilm in regards to Admiral Ackbar's mascot candidacy:

"Lucasfilm is flattered that our Star Wars fans at the University of Mississippi are considering electing Admiral Ackbar as their mascot. The last time we checked in with Admiral Ackbar he was leading the Rebel Alliance Fleet on a critical mission so it will be difficult for him to show up for the games!"
