Avoiding Real Life Clone Wars Posted By Paul on August 19, 1999
Darth Steveious found the following in his print edition of the OTTAWA CITIZEN this morning. Is this a possible Episode II or III scenario??
The Canadian Defense Department recently released a report written by USAF Maj. John Donovan regarding the possibility of nations using cloned warriors as a kind of slave fighting force, and how such a situation might be avoided. The report said that "the potential for military abuse of cloning technology is sobering" and steps should be taken to outlaw it the same way that development of biological weapons was banned in the 1970s. He pointed out that clones wouldn't "suddenly emerge from pods as zombie drones" and would still require a mother to carry the clone to term. But Maj. Donovan said that while "the notion of cloning humans for military or other purposes also raises enormous moral and ethical concerns...and is an affront to human dignity and worth...he fears a determined and ruthless government might pursue such a course."
