TFN Guest Photographer Sherry of the Moisture Farm Co-Op sent us some fantastic images from the press day at the new Star Wars exhibit.
She reports with some photos and information about the Smithsonian's Naboo Starfighter Exhibit premiering this Saturday:
"Star Wars: Art of the Starfighter" is an exciting exhibit that brings to life the models used in the creative process of making films. When you walk through the doors of the Arts and Industries Building you come face to face with a full size 35 foot Naboo Starfighter used in the making of Episode I: The Phantom Menace. It is approximately 35' x 22' in size and the entire exhibit is 3000 square feet. There are 2 interactive kiosks. The first features a documentary video from Lucasfilm and the second contains 2 interactive games, Pit Droids and PlayStation 2 "Star Wars Starfighter".
The Exihibit will run from April 28 until June 24 when it will then travel to Smithsonian Affiliate museums for four years.
"Star Wars: Art of the Starfighter" was organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) and the Smithsonian Affiliations, in conjunction with Lucasfilm Ltd. SITES is the largest traveling exhibition service in the world.
On Saturday, April 28th, the Smithsonian has planned a ribbon-cutting ceremony, arts and crafts, such as making your own starship models, starfighter pilots or space aliens and interactive games.
Visit StarWars.com for additional information about this exhibit. Thanks to Sherry for the pictures!
UPDATE: Sherry also tells us she was in good company that day, with guests of honor including Anabeth Guthrie, Media Relations Manager, Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, Cheryl Washer, Project Director, SITES, Jane Boston, General Manager, LucasLearning, Mary Bihr, VP, Worldwide Sales & Marketing, LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC, and last, but in no way least, John Goodson, Model Shop Project Supervisor, ILM. Sounds like a fun afternoon!
Stay tuned to TFN tomorrow for the Staurday premiere!
