Ray Park, who is currently a guest at Gen Con in Anaheim, took part in a Hyperspace Chat earlier today. Here are a couple of the questions he answered:
Q: What was your reaction when you first saw (the) final version of "Duel of the Fates" with music, and all sound and visual effects?
Ray Park: I saw it in Philadelphia for the first time at the charity premiere for the Starlite Foundation. I had tears in my eyes, it was so beautiful.
The reaction from people was amazing. There was a woman behind me who cried out "YES!" when Darth Maul was killed. I was sitting there in the theater and heard the reaction. It's hard not to take that personally, but you realize that the character must have really worked as a villain for people to have cheered his death.
Q: How often have you come face to face with yourself at a con? Any particularly memorable moments?
Ray Park: The guys who have dressed up as Darth Maul are really good. They stay in character. It's great to see the fan reaction and kids reaction to this. I always try to get as many pictures as I can with these guys.
There was one scary experience in Belgium with this guy who must have been 6'3" or 6'4". I went to shake hands with this guy, but he stayed in character. He just never said anything to me and was just eyeballing me, so it was very intimidating. Like he was going to rip my head off or something.
He was a nice guy, though. I saw him after the event without makeup, and we got to talk.
