If you happen to check in on our Yummy
Star Wars series from time to time, you might remember seeing the name Oki. He's a talented
Star Wars fan in Japan who has created a number of fantastically detailed
veggie carvings of
Star Wars characters, vehicles and logos. We've posted pictures of his veggie art in a number of posts and use one of his creations as the Yummy
Star Wars logo. Oki was fortunate in that he, his family, and his friends made it through last months devastating earthquake and tsunami virtually unscathed. That being said, our veggie carving/
Star Wars-loving friend wrote in to make sure we were aware of a new relief effort project that's been created by
Star Wars fans and the 501st in Japan.
Through the
"We Are Jedi" Project, fans are encouraged to donate by purchasing
"We Are Jedi" t-shirts where all profits will go to benefit the
Japan Red Cross Society. Though not officialy licensed, the t-shirts are being produced through authorization and cooperation with Lucasfilm. A limited run of 1,000 are being planned at a price of $29.50. While the
"We Are Jedi" Project won't be taking orders until the end of April, you can
click here now for more information. If necessary, use the link at the top right of the page to navigate between Japanese and English versions of the text.
Thanks to Oki for helping to spread the word for a great cause and, as always, we look forward to the next round of veggie carvings. (He's done some awseome
BSG creations as well!)
