John Powell Composed 5 New Themes For Solo

We are, of course, all familiar with the iconic musical themes the great John Williams has composed for countless films over his decades long career. None maybe more so than the themes he composed for the Star Wars saga going all the way back to 1977's A New Hope and as recently as 2017's The Last Jedi.

Now classics like "Imperial Attack", "Imperial March" and "Duel of the Fates" are engrained in us as much as any musical score ever written. When it came time to scoring Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm hired composer John Powerll (the Bourne series) this time to provide motifs for the franchises most famous scoundrel, Han Solo. This isn't the first time the company broke from Williams for a Star Wars anthology film. Michael Giacchino composed the soundtrack for 2016's standalone film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to great success.

Although we now know that John Williams pitched in to write a theme for Han specifically, Powell composed the bulk of the music for the franchises second standalone film. Recently, Powell took to social media to tease that he'd written five new musical themes for the film...



It seems Powell will make us wait a little longer to hear all the tracks, but he recently confirmed that we actually heard Chewbacca’s brand new theme in a released clip from the new film. It’s the bit we've seen in the trailers where Chewie reveals to Han that he’s 190 years old and Han reacts accordingly. Take a look at the clip below...

Everything I'm hearing from Powell sounds fantastic and I'm sure this soundtrack will be as memorable as any other Star Wars film. The music in these films is just as important to Star Wars fans as any other aspect and I'm glad to see Lucasfilm recognizes this by continuing to hire quality composers.
