A Dallas DLP screening of Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith was disrupted by a radio station KISS 106.1 FM prank.
A few minutes prior to the screening of the first screening at 12:01 a person stating his name as Rich Shertenlieb morning producer of the Kidd Kraddick morning show stood in front of the sold out theater and proceeded to yell out potential spoilers much to the dismay of the audience who began to shout and yell.
Cinemark Theater management was not amused by the prank and encouraged the audience to call and email the station to complain.
Mr. Shertenlieb who is characterized as the comic relief of the morning show and prides himself for his "bits and pranks". The radio station is a part of the Clear Channel Communications network. Several of the Dallas area Clear Channel radio stations held a joint screening earlier in the evening and had made derisive remarks about those who had been lining up for Star Wars Episode III.
It was unfortunate that the incident occurred during a charity raffle that was being run by DFW Fanforce for Rainbow Days, a local charity that helps at risk children learn the skills necessary to live a drug free life. The local group continued with the raffle, which included two 3-D life-size Yoda statues, and life size Watto, and several autographed and rare toys.
Michael adds:
Aside from the heckler that we had before the start of the film, as the opening crawl began, apparently only the front channels were working. The sound appeared to have corrected itself about 30 min later but had awkward echoes throughout the film.
