Erik sends in a report of the Washington DC charity premiere, which took play Thursday May 12th at the Uptown Theater:
I had the pleasure of attending the Charity Screening in Washington, D.C. last night to benefit The Children's Defense Fund. It was a smaller affair than NYC & LA, but it was still great fun nonetheless.
The only big celebrities that came were Carrie Fisher and her Mommy, Debbie Reynolds. Both gave leisurely strolls down the red carpet and accommodated reporters and fan's requests for interviews and autographs. Carrie was her witty self as usual, and Debbie was a good sport as well. While Carrie was doing interviews, Debbie was chatty with the fans even taking items from autograph seekers to hand to Carrie to sign - and once Debbie took a microphone from a reporter who just missed the chance for an interview, and she interviewed Carrie on behalf of the reporter for a brief moment. I heard Debbie give a humorous gasps a couple times in response to the crazy things coming out of Carrie's mouth - but Debbie had one of the better quips of the night to a reporter who asked how she feels about her daughters role in Star Wars, "It's wonderful to have children that work!". They both seemed in good spirits, and were having fun with the crowd. Carrie stated she had yet to see the movie at that point, but had read the script and loved it.
All guests received goodie bags with some small gifts, but nothing too exclusive or exciting. No need for me to review the movie other than to state that the movie was great, as was the atmosphere.
I also got to spend time with the folks who are currently camping out at the Uptown Theater in DC. They have been there since last Friday and are doing great.
