Neely's Revenge of the Sith Review

Posted By Joshua on May 6, 2005

(SPOILER WARNING: review contains many spoilers)

I (Josh) took two friends with me to see ROTS at a press screening today. Here's another perspective on the final Star Wars movie ever.

It might be important for you first to understand me before you read what I have to say about my viewing of Episode III. I am a daughter of a Star Wars junkie, raised on the Jedi code. When I was young my father told me whenever I was afraid to pray to Princess Leia and ask her for the power of the Force to help me overcome my situation.

I dreamed of the day I would marry Luke Skywalker and together we would raise little Jedi Knights. But it?s important at the same time to know that I am purely a Star Wars movie fan and have no knowledge of the history or additional information that one might have from the books.

So for me there is only one word that summarizes Episode III?Emotional. I guess you could say that for me Star Wars as always been about an emotional connection. Below are the emotions that got a hold of me today as I watched Episode III:

PITY - I kept hoping that Anakin would chose wisely, despite the fact that I knew what he would decide and his ultimate fate, I wanted differently for him. I was surprised by my overwhelming compassion and sympathy for him as he battled the inner turmoil within himself. So now I found myself having pity for Darth Vadar and I think I will view him differently as I watch the Originals.

ANGER - There is no denying after EPISODE III that the dark side is indeed dark. I am glad that Lucas dared to take us there, to see the full extent of its evil power and ability to destroy one?s soul and life. I was filled with anger as I watched Lord Sith destroyed so many innocent lives.

INSPIRED - This movie, like the Originals or IV/V/VI, was filled with so many words of wisdom that I again found myself viewing Star Wars as a source of enlightenment. You might find this usual (or maybe you won?t) but pay close attention to Yoda?s words to Anakin about death- they?ll give you something to think about for a while.

JOY - The most emotional part for me was the birth of Luke and Lei (though this was the least realistic scene?I?ve had a baby). Seeing the birth of ?the future? of the rebellion was both rewarding and somehow poetic for the girl who once prayed to Leia for guidance and strength.

As far as story line goes, I left feeling like it all made sense?complete closure had taken place. All in all the movie was filled with enough action to keep one interested and enough emotion to keep one wanting to believe in it again.
