According to Kotaku, Amazon has just listed Star Wars Battlefront III for release in March of 2009 on all the major platforms except PC. Here's what Kotaku had to say:
"Retailer Amazon has listed tentative dates and platforms for Star Wars Battlefront III, long rumored to be in development at Free Radical, developers of Haze and Timesplitters. While we've been under the impression that the UK based dev was hard at work we didn't know how hard at work they are. According to Amazon, Battlefront III is coming to everything ? Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, DS, PSP, PlayStation 2. OK, not everything, since it doesn't list a PC version, but if these listings are accurate, anyone and everyone will have access to a version of the game come March 2009. We await more news at E3 next week."
Now, it may just be me but I can't seem to find this listing on Amazon and when I clicked on the Amazon link at Kotaku, I was taken to a page with this message: "Your search ""star wars battlefront III"" did not match any products." Not only that, but please bear in mind that a lot of the initial info on Amazon listings is speculative to downright incorrect. This could bode well for the game being on the horizon, but other than that we really don't know much. On the otherhand, Kotaku has certainly come to the forefront as one of the more reliable sites for video game info so take the news as you will. We'll be sure to let you know as we hear more.
Thanks Ethan!
UPDATE: More on the Battlefront III rumors right here at IGN Wii. See the excerpt below:
"Two independent sources have confirmed to IGN Wii that Star Wars Battlefront III is set to hit current-generation consoles, Wii included. The developer named by both tipsters is Free Radical Design, best known for the TimeSplitters first-person shooter series.
In 2006, Free Radical Design announced that it had entered into an agreement with LucasArts to work on a top-secret property. If our sources are to be believed, it seems likely said property is, in fact, Star Wars Battlefront III.
When asked, officials for LucasArts declined to comment."
Remember, declining to comment is not a denial. More as we hear it!
"According to MyWii.com, the IGN.com podcast revealed Free Radical will be developing a Wii version of Star Wars Battlefront. At this point it?s unknown if it will be Battlefront 3 or just a spin-off of the series designed for the Wii, such as the case with Renegade Squadron for the PSP, but Amazon had a listing a few months ago for Battlefront III which was slated for 2009, by Free Radical, with the Wii as one of the consoles. That means the Battlefront series could be going to the Wii along with having versions for 360 and PS3 and other systems, not just the Wii."
