Sam Witwer: Zombie On The Walking Dead

Posted By Mike on January 11, 2012

The last we posted of Sam Witwer, we were examining rumors of him possibly being the voice of Darth Maul at the end of this season of The Clone Wars. While we don't have any new information on that right now (check back with TFN in just a little bit for more on that story), we came across a rather interesting article concerning Sam at IGN.

If you are a fan of the AMC show The Walking Dead, you may or may not have noticed that Witwer played a zombie soldier during the climactic tank scene at the end of the pilot. Then show runner Frank Darabont is a friend of Witwer's and has utilized him previously in projects such as The Mist. Apparently Darabont cast Witwer in that rather insignificant role with plans of expanding on the character through a flashback episode either online or in the show's second season. Of course, as fans of The Walking Dead are aware, Frank Darabont was ultimately let go by AMC before this idea could come to pass. Budget cuts by AMC also helped lead to the demise of the idea.

Head on over to IGN for the full source article with video of Sam discussing Darabont and links to more details regarding the dismissed storyline. Witwer's official fan site also has a nice write-up about the story and has an image of the Starkiller actor in The Walking Dead's premiere episode.

Fans of Sam Witwer can look for him to return to the U.S. version of Being Human when it returns to SyFy on January 16th at 9:00PM
