If you listened to this week's Force-Cast (and you should have!!!), you might have heard Sheldon call in with some interesting news regarding the future of Star Wars in 3-D. See below for his printed report.
"I have a story that may be of interest to Star Wars fans awaiting the rumoured 3D release of the films.
I am a director/cinematogrqpher working on a documentary series for a local broascaster. This past summer I spent a day with the in-house production team at Christie Digital Systems in Kitchener , Ontario, Canada sharing with them cinematic techniques I use with HDV cameras. Christie are the premier provider of the new digital projectors which are rapidly making their way out to U.S. cinemas at a rate of approximately 40 per month. While there, they gave me a tour of their amazing facilities where you are required to where a lab suit, hair net, and shoe coverings. What was most interesting was their 3D lab where they were working on the projection process that will be used for the "Star Wars" films. In fact I was told they were being converted at the cost of 10 million per film. The tedious process of reformatting the films is done on a per frame basis and is completed elsewhere, but they spoke confidently that this was occurring. I had a chance to view one of their new 3D systems and to say the least, I was stunned."
Thanks to Sheldon for the report! We also want to thank JASON SWANK of your Weekly Force-Cast for forwarding the report. (And to hear that we don't credit you and Pete...for shame) ;-)
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
