The official Star Wars website has been redesigned, and with this redesign comes a new focus on "epic visuals, engaging videos, and new worlds to explore." According to the redesign announcement post, "Going forward, news will still be an important part of the site, but those stories will not be the only driver of updates." Here are the highlights from the redesign:
"A growing Encyclopedia of Star Wars lore [...] has begun anew, with a focus on visuals. For those who want more detail, the site will endeavor to link to the best sources of supplemental information." This encyclopedia replaces the old Databank, which, along with "much of [the site's] past content," is now offline. Encyclopedia pages feature "More on Wookieepedia" links that send visitors to the unofficial wiki's more in-depth articles.
An emphasis on video and gaming. "Videos are now presented in higher quality, collected in the "Watch" section, but also found in characters and movie pages as well. Users can also now comment directly on videos." The announcement also promises HD video to go along with updates on The Clone Wars Season 4.
Aggregated Star Wars news from online sources. The new Around The Web page collects GFFA-related stories from news outlets and pop culture blogs.
Link love for fan-run sites. TFN, Rebelscum, and other fan-run websites have a dedicated page on the official site now. Our thanks go to Lucasfilm for including us there.
Shopping advice. The site has two pages -- Where to Buy and Licensees -- that direct fans to the best places to pick up Star Wars gear.
A calendar. Star Wars Celebration, product launch parties and release dates, TV episode airings, sporting events, and more. It's all on the calendar.
Check out the newly-redesigned StarWars.com and read the announcement post here. It should be noted that all StarWars.com story links from before this update are now broken.
UPDATE: As has been pointed out on Twitter, The Clone Wars episode guides no longer feature behind-the-scenes content as part of the redesign.
