Disney CEO Bob Iger did an interview with CNBC after The Walt Disney Company released its latest earnings report. In the interview, which you can watch below, Iger confirmed a long-standing rumor that writers Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan are working on spinoff films in the Star Wars saga. "I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few standalone films," Iger told CNBC's Maria Bartiromo. "Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga." The comment about the spinoff films focusing on characters outside of "the overall saga" is a bit ambiguous, particularly in light of yesterday's rumor about a Yoda movie.
Also in the interview, Iger reiterated that the sequel trilogy would be released over a six-year time span beginning in 2015, but he suggested that the spinoffs would fill in the gaps, adding, "there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time."
Iger also said that it was "great to put Star Wars VII in J. J. Abrams' hands" and that Kinberg and Kasdan were consulting with Abrams on that film.

UPDATE:A post on StarWars.com reveals that "two spinoff films are currently confirmed." Kasdan and Kinberg are each working on one of them. Both are set to be released after Episode VII.
