Disney Buys Lucasfilm: The Investors' Conference Call
Posted By Eric on October 31, 2012
Yesterday afternoon, following the announcement that Disney was buying Lucasfilm, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger and Senior Executive VP and CFO Jay Rasulo participated in a conference call for investors to explain their reasoning and what they expected the deal to produce for both companies. The Wall Street Journal has a summary of that call available here. You can also listen to the full forty-minute call here. Below are a few highlights from the event.
Q. With the Marvel deal, there were some small print details restricting what you could do re "exploiting" characters. Any like this?
A. Not as many, but there are some - far fewer than Marvel though. Some restrictions on Indiana Jones, and some on the Star Wars films made with Fox
Q. Any idea how much extra money you can make from 3D with the new Star Wars films?
A. The opportunity for 3D is a reason why we thing we can do better than the previous installments. BUT... 3D would account for 40-50% of the revenue of a film like this today, but we're being conservative in our estimates because there's no guarantee that will still be the case years into the future.
