For a smaller file size, this tutorial was recorded and compressed in 256 color. There's nothing wrong with the video file.
When adjusting the color balance, don't feel that you must keep the color quot;pure". When I do blue lightsabers, I typically have the blue highlights up at 100% and the midtones for blue at 100% and green at 25% or 50%. Try throwing in bits of other colors as you set them.
Also when adjusting the color balance, you will probably not want to raise the shadows of your color. This tends to "darken" the glow and make it appear flat. Try it and see for yourself.
I'd like to reemphasise the fact that in After Effects it is usually better to use a "blur ratio" of 1:2:4 as opposed to 1:2:3, as was established in the Photoshop tutorial.
As with any tutorial, you must tweak and experiment to produce the results you want. Play around with it! Have fun!
