by Jedi Toren and DaftMaul

These questions come up a lot, what typeface, what colour etc should the opening crawl, and long time ago opening be?

This page should hopefully answer your questions, and provide a few things that may help you create your own more accurate Star Wars opener.

The 'Lucasfilm' Logo

First things first, if you are waiting to create your own version of the LucasFilm logo, click lucaslogo for a tutorial that should help you get started using Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop and After Effects.

A long time ago...

The Star Wars opening and crawl use the Franklin Gothic typeface family as a base. To download the Franklin Gothic Family for free, click here

Bitmap Logo: Alternatively you can download a bitmap version of the logotype here

Vector Graphic: for the best quality download one of the illustrator versions below. It is worth noting that the infill of the words 'Star' and 'Wars' are black, and the starfield does NOT show through.

Two versions have been created.
One with just the yellow outline available here (Alt/Click to download)
One with a yellow outline and a solid black interior which is available here
