Randy Stradley, the Vice President of Publishing and Senior Editor for Star Wars from Dark Horse comics, has given an interview to Newsarama, talking about the up-coming comic series Star Wars: Invasion!
There's some new information on the plot (mention of four members of the Galfridian family, not just Finn and his sister Kaye, for example), and a LOT of delicious new art.
But while Newsarama seems to recognize that Star Wars: Invasion is the headline story in the Galaxy far, far away right now, the actual interview is pretty wide-ranging, with Mr. Stradley discussing the demands and dynamics of producing Star Wars comics in interesting detail. There's plenty here that you should really just click over and read, but we also get full confirmation of the exact shape of the line for the next year.
Star Wars: Legacy and Knights of the Old Republic are continuing as ongoing series. Each one of the new Star Wars Adventures digest-sized graphic novels will focus on one character from the Original Trilogy, confirming the pattern implied by the Han Solo and Princess Leia volumes that have been announced. The Clone Wars ongoing series will run for another six months at least, the Clone Wars digests will continue, and there's also a Clone Wars story for Free Comic Book Day.
Contrary to what we speculated in our earlier coverage, however, Star Wars: Invasion and Dark Times will be semi-ongoing series, alternating in the scehdule as their story arcs finish, every five months. In practice, though, the next arc of Dark Times is beginning in late April and Star Wars: Invasion debuts on 1st July; if that Dark Times arc is indeed the five-parter it's been billed as, that suggests that there's going to be an overlap of several months when the two comics are both coming out together.
We also get an exact date for the online tie-in comic for The Old Republic! This will debut at www.swtor.com on 27th February, with short chapters appearing every fortnight. There's also a preview page of black-and-white art for this new series at the end of the interview.
And there's also a hint that we might be seeing some sort of Star Wars crossover, but I'm not really sure what to make of that.
