A vast Nagai army, from another galaxy, lands on Kinooine, preparing to attack the Alliance with the help of Imperial remnants, and to capture Luke to study his Jedi powers. With Lumiya bound, Luke and Kiro spy on the troops as they search for Dani and Den. As troops emplace data processing systems, others scout to kill all non-Nagai. As Luke and Kiro take Lumiya to their ship, Den subjects Dani to an analysis grid to scan her physiology. He knows this hurts her, and appears to have feelings for her, but he seeks knowledge. Faron, disturbed by Dani's pain, grabs a knife and tries to kill Den, but he sees Faron and kills him with a single throw. Luke ties Lumiya to the ship as Kiro replenishes his water tank. She vows to kill him, but he points out she would die as well. Three Nagai appear, guns raised; Luke uses the Force to make them think him an ally, but Lumiya snaps them out of it, and in the ensuing fight, Luke and Kiro kill them. On Endor's Sanctuary Moon, Ackbar, Mothma, Lando, Leia, Han, the Zeltrons, and several Hoojibs and Ewoks discuss the Nagai/ Imperial attacks, realizing war is upon them. Plif reports that Hoojibs have telepathically scanned Nagai captives, and that Knife hates Han for a reason only he knows. Lando is glad to have the Cobra back, but Han is more concerned with rescuing Luke and wants to go himself. Ackbar won't let him neglect his duties for a "personal concern," and Mothma reminds them none of them sit on the ruling council, so Han quits. Den is awed by the beauty and strength of a flower, as nothing like it grows on Nagi. He gives it to Dani, but she can only think of Kiro, who arrives shortly later to save her. Luke sabotages the Nagai computers, using the Force to hide on the ceiling when guards approach. He steals a data tape, then sneaks off-base. On a cliff over the ocean, Kiro leads Dani to the ship. Den finds them, armed with two knives, and a fight ensues between him and Kiro. As they fall into the ocean, Luke arrives to find Dani staring at bloodstains in the water. Neither body surfaces, but when they return to the ship, they find Den's flower and empty binders in place of Lumiya.
