Marvel Star Wars #69
DEATH IN THE CITY OF BONE
Published: March 1983
Story: DAVID MICHELINIE

Summary

Bound in energy-links, Leia and 3PO are taken by Dengar's troops to a transport barge bound for Kedalbe, a city carved by Slavers from a giant carcass. At Kedalbe, Leia sees Alph and another Slaver mis-treating a slave afraid to eat live food, then is taken to see the Suprema in the skull's horn. A tall alien, he has a life-sized holo of Vader in his office. Dengar leaves to find Fenn and the Suprema shows Tobbi's armor as a threat of Leia's fate. Two guards bring them to a cell, but one guard attacks the other. It is Fenn, who offers her Dengar if she frees Tobbi. They find his cell and pretend to have seen a slave break-out, but the ruse fails and Fenn knocks out the guard. As they enter the cell, Tobbi jumps Fenn, thinking him a Slaver. Introductions are made, then all go to the hangar and spot Dengar near a hovercraft. Firing out a window, Fenn signals his followers to attack, and in the chaos captures Dengar and the hovercraft. Drawing fire, they shoot the energy-link controls, freeing the slaves. Leaving Dengar bound in the 'craft, they storm the Suprema's office, but when he shoots Tobbi, Fenn nearly beats him to death. Tobbi says to leave him, and though Fenn promises to come back, both know he cannot. As they escape, a pursuing hovercraft fires on them, but freed slaves throw a gruel trough, making the Imperials crash. Tobbi dons his armor to die as a Protector, opens the hangar doors for his friends to escape, and closes them on the Imperial craft, dying to protect others as the base explodes. Fenn's people and the slaves escape and head for Fenn's camp. Fenn threatens to push Dengar into a propeller unless he tells about Han and Fett, but Dengar was not Fett's partner and knows only that he was hiding in the Anga System. As Protectors take him away, Leia is dejected. Meanwhile, the Falcon visits the Wheel to find Vorol, who knows where Bossk is. Chewie "persuades" him to talk, but Lando is unhappy at the answer.
