Shira's death devastates Luke, who feels the Force betrayed him. Shira was well-liked, so Leia cannot publicly support him and risk splitting the ranks. He resigns and is greeted with silence by Rebels and Hoojibs at a mess hall in Corridor 14, Module 3. Ordering bantha steak, flangth, and balka greens, he is refused food and told to dine in his room. One Rebel, Milo Fourstar, scorns his powers and hints he killed her for not sleeping with him. Luke hits him, returns to his room, and kicks his Death Star medal. The droids enter to say spies have information on Boba Fett and Han, but he ignores them, wondering if Ben and Yoda lied about the Force. He goes to the hangar deck to take the Falcon , and though Lando makes a show of refusing, he conveniently leaves so Luke can take it. A guard stops him, but Chewie breaks his gun and joins Luke on the Falcon over his protests. Returning to Shalyvane to find answers, they are caught in a Nomad net. Nomads attack, Luke cuts the net with his lightsaber, and they hide in a ruined building, where they meet G'Hinji, an old Nomad. Luke asks about the humans of Chinshasaa but is told humans never lived there, for it was the Nomads' city until TIEs leveled it, making them nomadic. Luke realizes Shira lied. G'Hinji's people won't let Luke reach the Circle of Kavaan unless he guesses under which of three cups a stone is hidden. Using the Force, he lifts all three. G'Hinji is so amused that all the Nomads escort Luke and Chewie to the altar, finding a transmitter among the stones. Realizing Shira used her blood to activate it, Luke cuts his palm and bleeds on it. At first nothing happens, but as they turn to leave, disappointed, Luke hears his name and turns to find Vader calling for him.
