Marvel Star Wars #61
SCREAMS IN THE VOID
Published: July 1982
Story: DAVID MICHELINIE
Art: WALTER SIMONSON and THOMAS PALMER
Summary

In the Great Hall, a huge cave on Arbra, Luke, Lando, Chewie, the droids, and others watch as Leia awards Shira the Burdine Cluster and a promotion to Captain for heroism on Shalyvane. The rivalry has ended, but as Luke follows Shira, Leia is lonely and goes to her room to talk to a holosphere of Han. 3PO enters and she regains composure to follow him to a briefing room. Half-a-galaxy away, Giel and the largest armada ever recorded head for Coruscant. After making an officer run ten laps for wearing a non-uniform hat, Giel and Colonel Malka inspect a transport cage holding the teezl, (or "screamer"), found by Rimworld scouts. An organic communicator, it transmits anywhere in the galaxy at the speed of thought; the Emperor wants it brought to Coruscant to instantaneously call any forces. Shira, Luke, Thorben, and Alph use Ferret's TIEs to infiltrate the armada, armed with sensors to tell friend from foe and weapons to tackle all shields. Before leaving, Shira kisses Luke. Later, four Delta Group TIEs answer a distress call but are destroyed by X-Wings and replaced by Ferret's TIEs. Delta Leader, Captain Milnn, ejects, but is caught and "convinced" by Chewie to give a code for entry into the armada. Using his I.D., #76-19, they shoot the Star Destroyers. Aboard one ship, Major Voss orders counter-attacks, despite protests by Bosun and Erl that they might hit their own ships. A battle erupts, Alph dies, and Thorben has to pull out, but Luke and Shira keep firing. Realizing their scheme, Giel has the teezl transmit interference to jam non-Imperial frequencies. Luke uses the Force to detect foes and attacks Giel's flagship, hitting the teezl and most of the ship. Giel sends more TIEs, but Luke evades them Beggar's Canyon-style. Out of shots, he makes the TIEs shoot a sentry ship, and in the chaos flees to Arbra. Instead of a welcome, though, he is escorted to a briefing room, where Thorben and others snub him as Leia shows Thorben's ship's holojector footage of the last TIE Luke destroyed. To Luke's horror, a close-up reveals the pilot to be Shira Brie. EnsViews Comic Review
