Marvel Star Wars #60
SHIRA'S STORY
Published: June 1982
Story: DAVID MICHELINIE
Art: WALTER SIMONSON and THOMAS PALMER
Summary

When four TIEs attack Spindrift, an isolated Imperial base, Gerdy and a major are convinced Vader is punishing Gerdy for calling a woman on Aduba-4 on priority frequencies. Their shuttle hit, they run to a sub-ter rover, but when the TIEs destroy the bridge, they enact Emergency Strategic Option Six (surrender). As Rebels emerge from the TIEs, Gerdy is glad it's not Vader. Gemmer hails a troop transport and Luke and Shira herd the Imperials aboard. Captain Thorben steals a coded cartograph module, then all depart. The Empire is amassing a secret armada, so they'd used the TIEs to retrieve its coordinates from the module. Returning to Arbra, Shira requests time off, but the return coordinates are classified; she decides to leave, even though unable to return, but Luke offers to escort her out and back. Aboard a Star Destroyer, Admiral Mils Giel chastises his crew for giving Rebels too much credence, calling his armada "invincible." Luke, Shira, Thorben, and Wald fly X-Wings to Shalyvane, Shira's birth-world. Landing in the ruins of ancient Chinshasaa, they walk to the Circle of Kavaan, a holy place, where she kneels and cuts her finger to bleed on a stone. Alien Nomads suddenly attack. Taking cover, Shira says they killed her city and family when she was a child. The war lasted until the Nomads made peace overtures, but as her people waited in the Circle, a TIE squad wiped them out; she escaped in a drainage system and struggled for years, until an ex-TIE pilot from that mission told her Nomads sold her people out, so she joined the Rebels for revenge. Each year, she returns to honor them in blood. With R2's help, they find the drainage system, but as she enters, thousands of Nomads attack and it collapses. The Rebels prepare to die, but Shira gets to a ship and strafes the Nomads, allowing her team to escape. EnsViews Comic Review
