Marvel Star Wars #34
THUNDER IN THE STARS
Published: April 1980
Story: ARCHIE GOODWIN
Art: CARMINE INFANTINO and BOB WIACEK
Summary

Han, Leia, Chewie, and the droids use the Falcon to lead a Rebel convoy to Junction to rescue Luke and stop the Tagges. As tensions are high on the ship, 3PO is glad to be a logical droid, but when R2 beats him at holo-chess, his own tension rivals the others'. Near Junction, the Tagge Mining Explorer launches the Omega Frost conductor into the asteroid corridor as Shanks and Silas, now acting Baron, continue Orman's plan while he heals. Luke's TIE runs out of fuel and plunges toward an asteroid. He ejects in time to avoid dying, letting the Force and a jet-pack guide him to the conductor. The Falcon and the Rebel fleet drop out of hyperspace outside the Corridor. As Han prepares to lead the others through the asteroids, Leia kisses him for luck. Silas and Shanks observe the fleet and plan to activate the Frost when they reach the half-way point. Silas tells Shanks to have Ulric move his ship into position and record the victory for the Emperor. Luke manages to reach the first conductor's asteroid as his jet-pack runs out, using his lightsaber to break momentum and land. He tries to cut down the tower but is stopped by a force-field. Detecting him and avoiding risks, Silas orders the Omega Frost activated, moments too early. The Rebel fleet maneuvers out of the way and Luke digs a hole in the asteroid with his saber, exposing the conductor and destroying it. Realizing they were set up and Junction is safe, Han prepares to turn the Fleet around, but Leia sees an opportunity to defeat the Tagges. Panicking and unprepared for a change in plans, Silas orders an officer to contact Ulric, then runs to Orman's side. Shanks realizes Silas' error but it is too late, for the Rebels, tracking the transmission, attack the Mining Explorer. Silas tries to awaken Orman from the drugs he gave him to keep him from spoiling his handling of things, but the ship explodes around them. A TIE Fighter from Ulric's ship dives to kill Luke on the asteroid, but the Falcon destroys it and rescues him, and Han gloats at providing another happy ending. EnsViews Comic Review
