Marvel Star Wars #30
A PRINCESS ALONE
Published: December 1979
Story: ARCHIE GOODWIN
Art: CARMINE INFANTINO and GENE DAY
Summary

Leia and a Rebel captain visit Metalorn, a regimented Imperial factory world, debating whether or not she should even be on this mission. As the surface is barren, factories are underground and kept in tight order. As Shift 114E disembarks at Junction 206-994, a worker steps out of line when her daughter, Tammi, plants seeds. A Trooper sends her back to work and Tammi to the Learning Center, then kicks up the seeds. Since the Emperor now doubts all Tagge Industries projects, Orman Tagge visits Governor Corwyth to check a weapons detection system they built. Corwyth thinks the system works and that no rebellion exists on Metalorn, but the system detects a stolen weapon at Post 994-203. A squad finds the gun's dead owner and reports in, then finds the gun Leia stole. Spotted, she rides an ore conveyer to safety. As troops search for her under the guise of a security test to keep workers ignorant, sensors show her en route to the furnaces. A trap is set at Smelting Bay 5, but her conveyer arrives with only the stolen weapon. Furious, Corwyth dispatches all troops. Leia makes it to the mess hall to find Arn Horada, an old professor who once taught her galactic history on Alderaan but believes Imperial lies that Alderaan's royalty is dead. Tracking her, Orman tries to take her to gain the Emperor's favor. She throws a tray of food at him and runs, Arn trips him, Leia cuffs him to a table, and he cuts the cuff with his lightsaber and follows. Pretending Tammi is her daughter, Leia blends in with the crowd as Orman runs past and Shift 114 and Instruction Unit 51 finish their meals. Corwyth and Orman blame each other, and Orman warns not to execute Horada, tell the Emperor, or mention the incident in public, then leaves. As Leia and the Rebel captain escape aboard a Cargo Orbitter, he considers the mission a failure since she hardly spoke to Horada, sabotaged nothing, and began no resistance, but she feels since she gave them hope, they will eventually rebel. Later, Tammi defiantly plants more seeds in an unauthorized zone. EnsViews Comic Review
