Marvel Star Wars #27
RETURN OF THE HUNTER
Published: September 1979
Story: ARCHIE GOODWIN
Art: CARMINE INFANTINO and BOB WIACEK
Summary

In a cantina on Junction, an Outer-Worlds trading post more awesome than Mos Eisley or Anchorhead, Valance kills Marko Tyne, a man wanted in nine systems for unlicensed slaving. He claims the bounty, makes two patrons carry the body, and leaves. Having spent five weeks on Junction, he gives the bounty to Skinker, a salvager who provides droids to destroy and helps find "the boy and the droids." Returning to his ship, he muses how in his search he's learned enough of Rebel supply methods to predict their arrival on Junction. In the Gordian Reach, Luke and 3PO see a Star Destroyer and use an asteroid belt to cover their trip to Junction to find parts for R2 and open trade routes around the blockade. When they visit Skinker's salvage yard, he sees a "boy and his droid" and sends an employee, Polyp, to get Valance. Leia stands atop the Massassi base worrying about Han and Luke, then tells Dodonna that as a leader she should act, but he refuses to let her go. Valance kills a spy headed to warn Vader of Skinker's find, vowing to catch Luke before him. As Luke grows leary of Skinker, Valance enters and fires. Luke shoves 3PO, Skinker, and Polyp through a closing door, but Valance blasts it, stunning all but 3PO, who scurries out a secret exit. He tries to shoot 3PO, but Luke fights him with his saber, a deflected blast revealing Valance's Borg implants. When Luke and 3PO offer to die to save the other and 3PO shows compassion for his plight, Valance grows confused and angry, sparing them. Perplexed, the Rebels gather supplies and return home, certain they'll see Valance again. EnsViews Comic Review
