eBay Today 1339: Drool Worthy, & Rare Canadian Figures
Posted By D. Martin on May 10, 2013
When the Star Wars action figure collection began to hit shelves in Canada in 1978, they did so through a partnership with Kenner and Irwin Toys that lasted throughout the entire life of the original collection. The partnership gave us Kenner Canada and they distributed Star Wars action figures and toys to Canadians for eight years; all with bilogo packages.
After the release of the first two 12 back cards (12A and 12B backs), Kenner Canada felt the need to respect the bilingualism laws fully and altered the design of the action figure cards to include a French version of the logo on the fronts. the pyramid shaped La Guerre des Etoiles logo was proudly displayed on the bottom quarter of the final two 12 back cards (12C and 12D backs).
By the time Kenner Canada moved on to the 21 back card design, they had rethought the notion of over branding the packaging and the La Guerre des Etoiles logo was gone for good.
Since the Canadian products were produced in roughly 1/10 the quantities of the U.S. products, the 12C and 12D cards would be pretty tough to find by their own right but since they are such a unique design variation, they are incredibly sought after, hard to find, low produced pieces and always sell for large sums of money.
