Jedi Journal Books: Catching Up With July Posted By Jay on July 25, 2009
July has been a crazy month, and if you weren't paying attention over a dozen books have been published. Most of them are from The Clone Wars, but there a few other interesting titles as well.
Let's start with the big releases. These two books are must have items for your library. First is the Art of Star Wars: The Clone Wars by Frank Parisi and Gary Scheppke. Showcasing tons of behind-the-scenes designs, concept art, storyboard, interviews and even a preview of Season 2. The regular edition ($50) is on sale now, but there's a Limited Edition with even more content, in a special slipcase, which is due in October for $120.
Also, as mentioned last week, the latest eBook in the Lost Tribe of the Sith, Skyborn was released. Written by KOTOR scribe John Jackson Miller, you can download this eBook for the Kindle, iPhone, Sony eBook Reader or as a PDF for your computer.
Next up is a quartet of UK books for The Clone Wars, which included Downfall of a Droid, Destroy Malevolence, Operation: Huttlet!, and the Journey Through Hyperspace 3-D Adventure Book. These first three books retell episodes of from the first Season of The Clone Wars, while Journey Through Hyperspace presents a new story with Ahsoka investigating an SOS beacon from a Rebel ship. For the moment, these books are only available in the United Kingdom from Ladybord Books.
Next, there's the Rebellion Era Sourcebook, which is for the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars Roleplaying Game. Offering new Rebel and fringe characters from the Classic Trilogy, this book adds new campaign items and adventures to the existing gameplay ($34.95).
Then there's a great book containing 100 collectible postcards made from the Art of Star Wars Comics ($18.95). You can save them, send them or hang them up on your corkboard. Maybe even display them on your coffee table. It's your choice.
Another great coffee table book is Shadowline: The Art of Iain McCaig (Limited Edition). The regular edition edition was out a couple months ago, but this version featires rare portfolio works as well as sktechbook items and is bound differently from the bookstore edition. Amazon lists it as out of stock at the moment, but you can order it for $250. More information on this as it becomes available!
Finally, readers young and old will enjoy these books from The Clone Wars. There are two new Clone Wars Readers books from DK Publishing, Jedi in Training and Forces of Darkness. Meant for teaching reading skills, these books have great images from episodes of The Clone Wars. ($3.99 each)
Also from DK is The Clone Wars – Ultimate Battles Sticker Collection ($12.99) which has more Clone Wars stickers and pages to stick them on than ever! Kids of any age will have fun using these stickers. Heck, try putting one on your TPS report next week and see how that lightens the mood at the office!
Lastly, there are four titles from Grosset & Dunlop. The Battle for Ryloth ($7.99) and Captured ($3.99) each retell stories from Season 1 of The Clone Wars. The Dark Side Activity Book ($6.99) has games, puzzles, trivia and mazes plus more than 30 glow-in-the-dark stickers for more fun! And then the 2nd book in the Decide Your Destiny series, The Lost Legion ($4.99) allows readers to "choose your own adventure" as you read thru this tale of the Clone Wars.
