Some of you may know that the current contract between Lucasfilm and DelRey for the Star Wars novels expires in 2009.
On Monday, at StarWars.com, we got our first hint of the way things will develop after that. Sue Rostoni, the head of books and comics stuff at Lucasfilm, revealed that a new contract for novels from 2009 onwards has been agreed on, and should be signed within weeks or months.
We don't know whether this means that the novels will remain with DelRey, or if they're going to go to someone else. We'll bring more news as we get it.
But, from our point of view, this is quite good timing, because here at the TF.N Books section, we were already planning to do something connected with this. Coming up this month, we're planning a look back over the DelRey years (thus far?!), and some personal thoughts on publishers that we, as reading-minded fans, think would do a good job with the Star Wars books in future....
In the mean time, you can discuss the news in this thread on our own message boards here at TheForce.Net. Congratulations to forumer DarthBroox for being the first to post the news there!
