After the attack by the Shadow Academy, the Jedi Knights begin rebuilding their temple. The twin's friend, Zekk, decides he can't stay at the Academy, especially since he helped destroy it, so he takes off to 'find himself'. That's when Han Solo shows up to tell Raynar, the Alderaanian Jedi Knight in stylin' clothes, that his father is missing. Raynar wants to look for him, but Solo tells him the stay at the Academy.
Meanwhile, it turns out that Raynar's dad disappeared with a shipment for the Diversity Alliance, a group of anti-human aliens. They hire Boba Fett to track him down.
Finally, Jacen and Jaina decide a good present for Leia's birthday would be a piece of the destroyed planet Alderaan, hence the name of the book. However, when they go to look for it, they run into our favorite bounty hunter!
Scott:
This book was cool because it is one of the first books to tie in with the Special Editions (not counting Shadows of the Empire). A ronto from Tatooine is used extensively in this book. Darin and I had the opportunity to see the Special Edition footage for the first time along with Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta. After we regained the power of speech, we said to them, "Now you are going to have to rewrite TALES OF MOS EISLEY just to keep up with all the new creatures!" They replied by saying, "Yeah, we were just saying,'Where can we include a ronto in one of our books?! We've got to put one in somewhere!'" Well, here it is! Fortunately, it is not just thrown in randomly. It actually helps the story.
It is also cool to see the kids go up against the aging Boba Fett! It was fairly enjoyable. I also like the way they are going with Zekk's character, but I don't want to spoil it. Check it out!

Nothing really bad comes to mind. It did seem goofy that colonists would live on a world that blows up every eight years. What the heck are they growing that makes them able to take the risk and be financially stable.....urrrghhh....must.....stop....overanalyzing! It was still fun.

Ronto breath. Ugh.
