This is the fifth book in the Junior Jedi Knight's series.
Jedi historian Tionne learns that Obi Wan Kenobi's lightsaber is hidden within Darth Vader's old fortress. Turns out that before the Death Star blew up, Vader either had it sent to his fortress or had it on him when he flew his fighter in the final battle. In any case, Tionne, Uldir, Anakin, Tahiri, Ikrit, and R2-D2 go on a mission to find the lightsaber. However, when they arrive there, they find a crackpot magician named Orloc is also looting the castle in search of the lightsaber. As the team races Orloc, they must also watch out for Vader's fortress defenses. Anakin must also deal with the fact that the fortress was once owned by Vader, his grandfather and a warning of what he could become.
Scott:
Another great book by Rebecca Moesta. This short story takes on something I've always wondered about. What happened to Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber? While the quest for this object is not as grand as I would hope, it is "Indiana Jones-like". Moesta also vividly depicts Vader's fortress. It's just what I would imagine it would look like. There's also a rather touching scene where Anakin finds Vader's bedroom, and inside is a small holo of Luke Skywalker. Is it possible that Vader was not as evil as his fortress would indicate? That was a great touch that expanded on both Vader and Anakin's character. I also continue to enjoy the Jedi Master Ikrit. I think he'd be a great character for the other stories if people would bother to read these stories. Also, the idea of someone pretending to be a Jedi with a few simple tricks and illusions is an interesting concept. Finally, nice cover by Eric Lee.
Scott:
My only gripe about this book was the character of Orloc. Not once, but TWICE he gets the drop on 3 Jedi and a Jedi Master. And he's only a scam artist with a few smoke and mirrors tricks. How can he even sneak up on Ikrit like he does without him sensing the guy? For someone so incompetent, he's doing pretty good.
Scott:
Uldir's whining. Someone give that kid a Force spanking and send him to his room.
