Anakin's Quest

Anakin is becoming more and more worried about how the Dark Side affects him, especially since he's named after one of the most feared men in the galaxy. That, plus the pressure of having Han Solo and Leia for your parents, Jacen and Jaina as your brother and sister, and Luke Skywalker for an uncle. Anakin decides he must find his own identity. After a talk with his Uncle Luke, he decides that he must go to the same cave on Dagobah that we saw in ESB. He believes it will help him solve his problems. Accompanying him are R2-D2, Tahiri, Peckhum, and the Jedi Master Ikrit. Also along is Uldir, a runaway from Coruscant who is determined to become a Jedi Knight, no matter what it takes. Forget the fact that he has no powers in the Force. The quest to Dagobah begins!

Yet again, I'm amazed at the story told in this "kid's book". It's fast paced, well written, interesting, and very much tied to the Star Wars Universe. It's a great character driven story with Anakin at it's center. Moesta does not hold back when exploring Anakin and the temptations of the Dark Side. It's as deep as anything you'll find in the "adult" novels. Plus, the story explores a very interesting question. What do you do with someone who desperately wants to be a Jedi, but will never be able to become one? Heavy stuff, and it's handled very well. Hidden among everything is a very important lesson for kids. You are the sum product of your past and what you presently make of yourself. Don't blame your problems on others. That, and the web connecting all life is important stuff, as you'll see in Episode 1. We also see a great trip back to Dagobah, the cave, and even Yoda's hut. Plus, Tahiri learns the importance of shoes. :) And I really love the Jedi Master Ikrit. This is a character worthy of appearing in other stories, and hopefully he will. To tell more about him would spoil this wonderful treat, so run out and get a copy!
Scott:
I really have no gripes about this. It's Moesta at the top of her writing. The only thing I didn't care for was the "spotlight sloth". Surely there's a better name for it?

Swap Spider. Where's a big shoe when you need it?
