Scott's Rating: 3.5 out of 4
This is a Step 3 young reader's book, intended for Grades 2-3. This is basically a watered down retelling of the scenes in the movie where Qui-Gon meets Jar Jar, they swim to Otoh Gunga, Boss Nass gives them a Bongo Sub, they run into monsters, and then arrive at Theed. The theme of this book is "Value all Life Forms".
Scott:
These books do something really cool by giving parents instructions on how to read the books with their kids. That's very important and a great thing to include at the beginning. The book is also priced to be kid friendly which wins extra points with me. Stickers are also included in the book.
Boris Vallejo takes a break from drawing gladiators and fantasy characters to illustrate this book, but the interior is very different from his usual style which can be seen on the cover. It's different, but still very good. Other than that, the book is a retelling of scenes from the movie.
Scott:
If the book would have expanded on the movie like the other kid's books do, I would have given it a perfect score. The fact that it does not add to the movie is why I bumped it down a little. However, kids won't care, and the rest is so well done you have to admire it. But still, some of the scenes and lines are changed a bit from the film when they didn't necessarily have to be, so that was odd. Anyway, great work by everyone.
Scott:
The Opee Sea Killer is the ugliest fish in the pond, for sure.
