For all of us who've been delighted with the current crop of classic trilogy manga adaptation English reprints, and equally disappointed with the Dark Horse TPM adaptation... we have fantastic news!
Richard Bent let us know that there will be an Episode 1 manga-style comic adaptation released in Japan on August 7th. At this time, there is no news on an English translation / reprint... but it would seem likely in light of the success of the classic manga adaptations.
If you're able to translate the text on this poster, or if you live in Japan and would be able to get me a copy of these comics when they're released, please send a note.
UPDATE: Richard wrote back with news that this ad is for a "trade paperback"-like publication combining the July and August "Korokoro Comic" two part adaptation into one 160 page book. I've heard that this first issue is available already. If someone could get me some scans, that "would be hot".
Chris Sypal provided some translation letting us know that the adaptation is being done by Kia Asamiya (four of this works - Nadesico, Dark Angel, Silent Mobius, and Steam Detectives are currently being translated into English). It's illustrated by Asamiya/Studio Tron, published by Koro Koro Comics, released on 8/7/99, 166 pages, on A5 size paper, will cost 700 Yen and George Lucas is credited as the writer.
