Affiliate site Dreamcast IGN has a huge update on the upcoming Dreamcast Racer with plenty of cool HUGE screens as well. If this game interests you, you need to go check this article out. Wow.
Gamers familiar with the N64 version will recognize all these characters, tracks, and features, as this was the standard package included in the mammoth cartridge on May 27th. I'm pretty sure that many console owners out there have played or seen the N64 version of the game, running with the RAM-pack equipped, as the title was a natural store display during the movie's initial weeks of release. It turns out, though, that if all you've seen was the N64 version, then you haven't seen Star Wars Episode 1 Racer was it was meant to be. The PC version of the game, running through a second or third generation acceleration card, was the real deal, complete with high res graphics, incredible color, and a smooth-as-silk framerate. The Dreamcast version is a port of the PC version, and considering the quality and timeliness of recent PC to DC ports like Re-volt, you'll already know what to expect from the DC version: the PC version running through your television, and allowing you to use your standard Sega controller. The developers of the PC version unfortunately reused some of the N64 textures (or so it would seem), resulting in some occasionally blurred graphics, but it's not too big a deal, and should still end up being a graphical gem for the Dreamcast.
Episode 1 Racer is set for Dreamcast release in the first quarter of next year, and will hopefully be the start of many Dreamcast games set in the Star wars universe. Expect more details, as well as video footage, in the coming months.
