Jedi Alliance Links, Previews & Reviews

Posted By Mike on December 13, 2008

Time to start the Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance post as we draw near to the November 11th release date for the Nintendo DS game. Make sure to visit the Lightsaber Duels big post as well. See the related links at the bottom for some posts you might have missed and more will be added as we come across it.

Starwars.com offers up a 2 part producer walkthrough video. Click on the links below:

UPDATE: Write-up from What They Play: (via Starwars.com)

"Set in the Clone Wars timeframe, set between Episodes 2 and 3 of the Star Wars saga, the game is based on the hugely successful animated TV show from LucasFilm, currently shown on Cartoon Network. The adventure charges the player with taking two Jedi at a time (from a selection of six that includes Anakin, Obi Wan, Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Ahsoka Tano, and Plo Koon. Ask your kids ? they know the significance) out into the field, and has them work together to defeat the bad guys and open up new parts of the story. In terms of gameplay structure, Jedi Alliance has a lot in common with another Nintendo DS title, Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword. Moving the Jedi around is as simple as pointing to a spot on screen and leading the heroes around, while combat involves tapping the stylus on the part of the bad guy that the player wants to strike with a lightsaber. There are simple puzzles that require the player to find switches and open doors, while there are also a number of ?events? that can be triggered that switch the gameplay to either a simple pattern drawing challenge (for cutting open doors with a lightsaber), an icon matching puzzle (for opening doors and hacking computer terminals) or ?Jedi events? that require specific gestures with the stylus to trigger cinematic sequences."

UPDATE #2: Starwars.com has posted some fun facts about Jedi Alliance.

UPDATE #3: Review from IGN with a score of 8.0 out of 10:

"The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance is a very well made action game for Nintendo's handheld -- not just for Star Wars fans, but for anybody after a quality portable title. Yeah, I've got a couple of issues with it. Characters could definitely walk faster in exploration mode. The camera is occasionally obtrusive. But the production values engulfing the game are well beyond most DS efforts. In fact, they blow away those in the Wii project. The developer has taken great detail in bringing the worlds to life and filling them with amazingly well- choreographed battles, cinematic scripted sequences, top-notch voice work, music, sound effects and more. And the stylus controls generally work well, whether you're simply moving your Jedi about, hacking panels or battling bosses in epic animation events. If this is the kind of products we can expect from LucasArts Singapore, here's hoping the subsidiary takes on a lot more games.

I have seldom awarded a game a higher overall score than it earned in the 'gameplay' category, but Jedi Alliance is one rare example whose production values actually counterbalance some of the gameplay shortcomings."
