E3 2006 Rap

Posted By Mark on May 13, 2006

Another E3 comes and goes, and as I mentioned before, there's plenty of questions left unanswered. Does the Darth Vader game really exist? Will there be a lightsabre title on Nintendo Wii?

Let's look at what was confirmed, first. The two surprise announcements were more then welcome, with Traxion and Thrillville making their debuts. While Thrillville reminds me too much of the Rollercoaster Tycoon series, Traxion on Sony's PSP has me interested far more, if only to see what it's capable of on the handheld system.

Meanwhile over in Indy land, there's been plenty of details floating around the net in regards to the behind the curtain viewings of the game in action, mainly tech demos of the brand spanking new engine showing of some amazing physics. It's promising indeed for the future of Indiana Jones within the next-gen system race, but we'll have to wait a while longer before we get to play any true representation of the game. It should be worth it, by all accounts. Indiana will rock the Xbox 360 and PS3 next year, it's just a case of what story the game will follow...

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy had its fair share of the spotlight aswell. The sequel should sell very well upon release, but at E3 interest was in the handheld iterations of the series for PSP, DS and GBA. The DS game will have some unique elements, sadly not on show this time around, while the GBA will be similar in design to its previous version. I very much doubt this game will fail, especially with so much more meat to its bones.

Then, of course, there's all that artwork featuring Darth Vader. Some say Vader will star, others say he'll only feature in a cameo role. Whatever happens to the great master of the Force, you can be sure that the game LucasArts have up their sleeves will tie in between Episodes III and IV, and may also have relevance to one of the two TV shows in the works aswell.

At IGN, they have a few more details on the secret game in action, using the same engine that's had people talking about Indiana. A Jedi throwing around clone troopers like rag dolls seems like an exciting prospect. We should hopefully see more of this in action over the rest of the year.

And yes, the Nintendo Wii was mentioned, but no game has been announced or denied. It's just been 'hinted' upon.

Another welcome announcement was the first of possibly many expansion packs to Empire at War. Forces of Corruption should add plenty more to the Saga we all know and love, and the story of the Corrupt Side will be interesting to follow. But no prequel content just yet...

A few no shows at the event included KOTOR III and, surprise surprise, Star Wars Galaxies. The MMORPG seems to be lacking of late, and with no expansion packs in sight for the time being, LucasArts may have finally let the title slide past. As for KOTOR, which was 20/80 whether it would make an appearance or not, don't take that as an answer on whether it exists. It's out there, don't you worry about that.

For all of the press releases, screenshots and trailers for the new games out of the House of Lucas (has a nice ring to it, no?), be sure to check out the official website.

And for anything else you wish to discuss regarding the E3 2006 event, whether it be LucasArts related or not, head on over to our forums and spill your thoughts.

Thanks for reading folks. Stay tuned to TFNGames as the next gaming 'financial year' kicks into gear.
