Chris' Reaction to Galaxies

I just read the Initial Reaction to SW Galaxies by Jeff Yankey and I felt I should remind you (TFN) to be fair and equitable with regards to Galaxies. A project like this, that will be VERY important to the Star Wars franchise, should be treated fairly.

Jeff stated that the game was not ready yet. Well, considering the nature of MMORPGs, it's hard to say that ANY game of that genre would be "ready" prior to launch. I know of NO other MMORPG that has ever launched in perfect state. Given the reputation that the Development Team has earned, I think it should be mentioned that they are fully committed to the project post launch as well and players can be assured that the game will get better than it already is.

Jeff only mentioned his gripes with the layout of a planet's cities and claimed that combat got boring. I have also been a beta tester since the begining of BETA 3 and I must differ here. I find the combat system to be enjoyable and fast. I think there are several combat dynamics (such as melee and brawling, combined with ranged combat) that make it fast paced and fun. However, if all you want is the grind of combat, perhaps Galaxies' depth will be wasted on you.

It's RPG potential is wonderfull. The list of emotes is endless. The dialogue bubbles are very effective. The crafting system is unique and easy. The list of professions is very interesting and imaginative. If you have never seen a Wookie playing guitar in a cantina with a light display and pyro - you can't possible know what I mean. The skill trees are fun as well. The concept of faction is employed well and PvP is handled well too!

The game is more than combat. So much more. And sure, there are bugs with some of the systems I applauded above. But, those will get worked out. A MMORPG is nothing like a regualr game. When EA's Medal of Honor was released, there was little to no developer support post-launch. You were just forced to live with the bugs. In those cases, "bugs" IS a four letter word! MMORPGs are not like this. Bugs are common place and get fixed.

Also, keep in mind, that for every person who is complaining about the game and making noise about their gripes (not directed at you Jeff, your review was tame compared to many), there is a long list of folks you DON'T hear from. That's because they are logged on, playing and enjoying the game right now!

I for one, am looking forward to launch. I can't wait to play the "real" game.

Chris
